POITOU CHARENTES

Gites-in-France are featuring the region of Poitou Charentes in Western France. From the coastal resorts of La Rochelle and Royan to Poitiers in the North East of the region to Saintes and Cognac in the South, there is something for everybody in this beautiful area of France.

The climate challenges the South of France for hours of sunshine and summer temperatures. Its mild climate - 2,250 hours of sunshine per year - makes it desirable to visit anytime from early spring to late autumn. The area is also bordered by Poitiers and its famous Futuroscope park, Bordeaux and glorious wines of Bordeaux vineyards and the green rolling hills of the Dordogne with its winding rivers.

A 300 mile-long coastline with glorious sandy beaches, lined by fragrant pine forests, modern resorts such as La Rochelle, Royan and the islands of Oléron, Aix and Ré provide attractions to tempt everyone. Inland, the scene is one of serenity, with vast horizons and wooded valleys, the Poitou fens and Marais Poitevin, the magic soothing tranquility of canals, the valley of Vienne, the foothills of Charente and the Cognac vineyards.
