Wow! The property market
is really active after a quiet period in April / May. Without the
approaching holidays, the French Property market is under siege. Our
agents are reporting that they are fully booked for viewings for at least
two weeks. Be warned if you are travelling to France with the idea of
viewing properties - please make sure you book your viewings before you
go! Once again we have been asked by a TV company to advertise for "victims"! If you are interested here are the details... The series will feature people who are dreaming of running a business abroad and those who have already successfully achieved just that and would be willing to give the dreamers a go at running their venture for a short period of time. This
year there has been a huge upsurge in the number of UK residents moving
abroad. Spain and France seem to be the preferred destination. At
1st-for-french-property.co.uk enquiries are over 100% up on last year. And
this is despite the relative strength of the euro.
Why are people moving? This
month we have been looking at our web statistics to determine the most
popular areas in France. The results are taken from our
1st-for-french-property.co.uk site for June 2003. This is based on 190,000
hits to our property pages.
Of course, some of these results are as expected. Normandy has been popular for many years with a good selection of cheap properties - we have properties from £20,000 in Normandy. Languedoc-Roussillon may surprise many with its high rating. But this region has a marvellous climate with competitive prices especially in comparison with the Provence. Provence prices are expensive, and Languedoc-Roussillon are 50% cheaper than Provence on similar properties. Many predict this region to become more expensive as the French start to buy here as they can no longer afford Provence prices. A good area for investment! Many areas are benefiting from the cheap air-fares from the UK to many destinations in France: Carcassonne, Montpellier, Limoges, La Rochelle, Bergerac, etc.....This has opened up many regions of France, and we are seeing prices increase around the environs of the airports. Now people can afford weekend breaks - so it is good for property prices and gites owners are now able to extend the season with weekend stays. We believe that the Limousin offers good value for a very attractive area. The North of the region is criss-crossed by rivers, and many lakes with beach facilities. The summers are hot and the land is green (rains during the winter!). Property prices are cheap. We have properties starting at €31,000. As an example, we have a house and barn at €33,000. Limousin is now accessible - motorways from Calais to Limoges. In addition, the airport at Limoges offers cheap flights from the UK.
Finally mortgages are very cheap in France. Rates are continuing to drop.
We are seeing rates from 2.75%. In addition, these mortgages can be at
