Wherever you live you are part of a community. It may be in a town or in a village in the country, but unfortunately, regardless of its size, your community will be a likely target for crime. It is often that residents feel they can do little to help. In fact they can do a great deal to prevent crime. The police cannot do it alone. Each of us can play a vital role in preventing crime. This is the purpose of Shillington Home Watch.

To reduce local opportunities for crime thereby deterring would-be thieves and vandals.

To establish a community spirit so that everyone can contribute towards the protection of their

property by mutual co-operation and communication.

To inform the co-ordinator or the police of any suspicious activity.

Shillington Home Watch is therefore a deterrent to crime, making the road in which one lives unattractive to would-be thieves and vandals. It is formed by residents from the community on a road or street basis with a street co-ordinator to lead. Shillington Home Watch is small but growing.

We are also involved in:

The distribution of Data Link kits to assist the Emergency Services, on being called out, to identify a person in need of help.

The distribution of marker kits to assist the police in detecting stolen property and returning it to its rightful owner.

Help for the elderly, and anyone else seeking it, in the form of advice to make them feel less vulnerable, and practical assistance to make their property more secure.

We meet the police and the Mid Beds Community Safety representatives regularly for an exchange of views and to keep in touch with the latest information they have to offer.
