Pfalz E.IV

The Pfalz E.IV was powered by a mighty 160h.p. Oberursel twin rotary engine. Combined with the haphazard control provided by wing-warping, this made it a bit of a deathtrap. The later E.V was given a more sensible 100h.p. unit.

The ICM 1:72 injection moulded kit tallied well with the only drawings I had available - an E.I - except for that extended front fuselage. Mouldings were a bit rough in places where the mould halves were misaligned, but on the whole no worse than many mainstream kits.

The kit was built Out Of the Box and sprayed overall with MisterKit German Clear Doped Linen paint. I then used a straight edge cut from plastic sheet and a Write-4-All permanent pen to put on the black rib tapes.

[Poor angle - above shot makes it look like it's got no wheels!]

The interior is surprisingly well - detailed, but the use of a decal for the dash does spoil the overall effect a bit.

Many of the crosses had to be replaced by ones from a Pegasus sheet as they were very thin, fragile and even transparent in places.

The model was completed February 11, 2001.
