L.V.G. C.VI

This is the Pegasus L.V.G.C.VI kit:
Limited run injected Polystyrene and an excellent kit it is too. The pieces fit well, with the aid of wire inserts at the wing roots. My main aim here was to reproduce the polished wood effect seen on the full - size aircraft from the Shuttleworth collection. This was achieved by undercoating the fuselage with a cream acrylic basecoat (main picture, left) and over coating with several thin layers of red / brown acrylic shades brushed on with the aid of Johnson's Klear floor polish as a medium. I thinned the paint about 10:1 with Klear so it became almost transparent. |

Lozenge decals were from Pegasus too. These were given several coats of Klear to seal them. |

The finished article. Aeroclub 2mm civil registration letters made the
side logo. I couldn't find anything small enough to reproduce the codes
'7198/18' seen on the original, so I left those
off. Rigging is elastic thread, despite a recent disaster with this material it remains quick and easy to apply. The plastic ('styrene) models seem strong enough to withstand the stresses imposed. |

This model was severely delayed. I finished it six months after starting the build. I seemed to get stuck with it; I think the thought of all those rib tapes didn't help. So I put it aside and got on with some other kits until I was ready to start again. The kit was completed on 14 January 2001.
