What happens during my first appointment?
The physiotherapist will ask you questions about your injury and your general health and she will examine you. Once the source and cause of your symptoms is identified she will talk to you about the treatment options available and what you want to achieve from physiotherapy. Your first treatment will happen during your first appointment.
what does the examination involve?
The physiotherapist may look at your posture and movement and test your joints, nerves and muscles. She will examine the area and any surrounding areas that may be referring pain or be contributing to the problem.
what does the treatment involve?
Treatments are all tailored to your individual requirements. Your treatment may include manual techniques, exercises, pain management strategies, advice, or electrotherapy such as ultrasound.
How long are the appointments?
Initial appointments are up to 45 mins and follow ups are 30 mins.
What should I wear?
In order to assess you properly you will be asked if you are happy to partially undress If you do not feel comfortable being examined in your underwear you may wish to bring shorts and a sleeveless T-shirt or vest.
What should I bring?
You need to bring the details of your insurance company if you want us to invoice them directly.
If you have a referral letter from your GP or consultant please bring it with you along with details of any medication you are taking and any relevant investigations such as scans and x-rays.
Is there a waiting list?
No we can usually offer appointments within two working days except in exceptional circumstances.
Does a doctor need to refer me?
No we are happy to accept self-referrals but please be aware that some insurance companies will require you to have been referred by a doctor.
Can I bring someone into the examination with me?
It is important to us that you feel relaxed and comfortable, you are welcome to bring someone with you to the appointment and they can stay with you throughout the examination.
Will I be expected to do anything in between treatments?
Yes, your home exercises form a vital part of your treatment plan and need to be done regularly as part of your treatment.
Do you take credit cards?
Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to take credit card payments. You can pay by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
Can I claim the cost of my treatment from my medical insurance company?
We are recognised by all major insurance companies either as Horsham Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic or under our individual names. We strongly recommend that you check with your insurance company prior to booking your first appointment. Often insurance companies require referral by a GP or consultant and you may have an excess to pay or a limit to the number of treatment sessions that you can have.
