Visiting and Contact with the Museum

We do not receive mail at the Museum premises - please see below

Following the disbandment of V (The Liverpool Scottish) Company of the 5th / 8th (Volunteer) Battalion, King's Regiment and the closure of the Forbes House Drill Hall in Childwall during 1999, the Liverpool Scottish Museum was until 2002  without a home whilst the serving Liverpool Scottish soldiers moved to other TA Centres. However, the move to the new Forbes House at Botanic Road in Liverpool took place early in 2001 and the museum was officially reopened on Saturday 16th November 2002.

The premises at Botanic Road, Liverpool, closed in September 2008. The Archive Office them moved to New Zealand House in Water Street, Liverpool, until the Liverpool Area office of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (who hosted us) moved to smaller premises in June 2011. The Museum Archive Office has now moved to offices in the Artists' Club off Dale Street in Liverpool. We would be delighted to see you (but by arrangement only) at our office within the Artists Club, 5 Eberle Street, Liverpool L2 2AG (this is not the correspondence address for the Trust). Eberle Street is a very narrow street inaccessible to general motor traffic  off the Town Hall side of Dale Street (ie north side) near the junction with North John Street. The club, (which has generously provided an office for us) is a very old-established private members’ club with a recognised dress code and, for visitors calling after 12:30 pm, we would ask that adults dress appropriately (eg gentlemen: reasonably smartly, preferably collar and tie and no denim). However, there is no need for the Royal Ascot look! Earlier visitors may be more informal! Visitors are asked not to use the entrance bell for the Artists Club if possible but to use a mobile to phone us inside on 0151 236 0007; one of us will come to the door. Moorfields and James Street stations are both quite near.

There is a nearby car park in Tempest Hey with access off Tithebarn Street but with no access from Eberle Street/Dale Street. We are normally there from 10:15 am until 3 pm on Wednesdays. We would always try to see a visitor who finds themselves in Liverpool unexpectedly if circumstances allow but a ‘phone call (even if immediately in advance) is essential.  The best plan is to ‘phone Dennis Reeves or Major Ian Riley to arrange a visit. This can often be done at short notice. The telephone in the Archive Office is 0151 236 0007 (obviously manned only when we are there and we do not monitor the message facility).

Alternative days are always possible in case of necessity (subject to our own commitments and those of the Club). The Honorary Secretary has seen visitors at his own home near the intersection of the M6 and M62 on occasion making use of digital resources.

Contact with the Museum may be made by telephone and post at the address below or by e-mail.

There continues to be a serving Territorial Army element of the Liverpool Scottish as part of A (Ladysmith) Company of the 4th Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border) based at Townsend Avenue in Liverpool and a Liverpool Scottish detachment of Merseyside ACF now operates from the Merseyside Centre for the Deaf on Queen's Drive L13

Those who have previously corresponded with the Museum should be aware of the death of Major David Evans TD (Honorary Secretary) on 13th August 2002. His e-mail address should not be used. Anyone requiring his postal address in order to write to his family should contact Major Ian Riley (see below)

Please do NOT write to the Museum Archive Office at Eberle Street (or phone the Artists Club itself) but DO use the address below (where no artefacts or original documents are maintained).
