Message:  Hello, I am researching a family relative from the Newmarket
area and wondered if there were any closer relatives who
might have a photograph to spare.
His name was Charles Edward Ranner, b 1885. Lived in Moulton.
Served in the WW1 with the Royal engineers and was awarded
the Military medal plus bar. Would love to hear from any
relatives who could shed light on his WW1 exploits.

Message:  I am attempting to produce a booklet covering the Roll of
Honour that Bill Smith and Rod Gibson originated. The idea
is to illustrate it with photos of all the cemeteries
where our local lads lie or the Memorials on which they
are commemmorated. In addition I will attmept to get phots
of each grave marker. What I really would like from the
Grans and Mums of the town( the ladies who hoard photos)
is wherever possible a photograph of the actual
Serviceman/woman for inclusion in the booklet. The WW2
ones may be simpler, the real task is to find the Great
War victims before all trace of them disappears.

Message:  Hello, I am researching Elsie and Sophia Palethorpe, who
lived at Woodbine Cottage, St Mary’s Square. I would like
to hear from anyone who remembers the sisters, and it would
be lovely to see photos of them – if they can be unearthed!

If you have any memories or anecdotes about Elsie and
Sophia, or photos of them, please email me at the address
 below. Thank you.

Message:  In reply to the previous posting it should be remembered
that up to about 1885 the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border ran
along the High Street. The part of the town south of the
High Street was in All Saints' Ward and in the parish of
Wood Ditton and the county of Cambridgeshire.
Therefore 'Station Road Woodditton' no doubt related to the
old Newmarket Station in what is now Old Station Road in
 the county of Suffolk.

Message:  I would be interested if there are any photos or maps of
Station rd, in newmarket. Accordinging to the 1871 Census
my 2x gt grandfather lived at no4 gotha cottages on
station rd, woodditton. i recently visited Woodditoon but
didn't realise that in 1871 parts of Newmarket were in the
woodditton district and came away without going to
 Newmarket.

Message:  Just come across the NLHS site and have found it to be
very informative. I was born in Newmarket Hospital in
1970 and have continued living in Newmarket. It was
interesting to read the history and see the old pictures
of the town. Could you include some more information
about the boy's grave on the crossroads?
