Message:  Thank you Lyn for putting Kaja on the front page, you have made me smile from
 ear to ear.
We all love our Fjords, they are addictive, but I don't need to explain just
 how special Kaja is.
We are buying the yard she lives on now so that she can stay there with us for
the rest of her days, she will also have her field mates with her because
those who already keep their horses there will remain for as long as they want
 to.

Message:  Hello,

 Just trying again.
About 2-3 years ago I've lost Andor out of sight. Andor is a 6 year old
(26-05-2004) Fjord gelding imported from Holland. First he was sold from Holland
to a stable in England, then he was sold to people in Yersey en than sold back
 to England.
Maybe someone on this site is the owner of Andor now?
His father is Blinken and mother is Skreia (v. Bjorgard)

 Greets,

Just dropping by to say that Ausdan Kaja is fit, well & enjoying being

She will be 20 years young in May.
She is so loved that we are buying the farm she lives on because the owners
wish to move back down to Essex.
She is an angel & seems to know that the MS I have gives me bad days.

Message:  I had never really even heard of fjords until September this year. I was
looking for a horse that was safe to ride out with my young daughters and
their ponies, I came across the fjord stud and Lynn who was fantastic. I ended
up buying a beautiful mare from lynn. After a very long journey from Wales to
Essex, Lotta arrived! She has the most amazing character, she was backed and
broken in 2 weeks and isn't even 5. So laid back with a hint of cheekyness,
like trying to roll when out on a hack in the snow last week.
There have been a few comments on here about saddles. I have just bought a
sadddle from 'native pony saddle company' which so far has been perfect.
 Jumping is our next challenge!!
I hopefully have found my horse for life and would recommend them to anyone(I
could have sold mine 10 times, not that I ever will)Thanks to all that helped
getting her to us. Jo X

Message:  Just wondering what other people do regarding clipping/ rugging their Fjords? I
bring my mare in at night over the winter months and I put a summer sheet on
her when she's out (even though she is not clipped at the moment) to stop her
getting completely covered in mud when she wallows in it! I wash her feet when
I bring her in at night but am wondering whether it would be better to clip her
feathers so her legs dry quicker, or leave the hair on for more protection

He's turning into a wonderful partner for my daughter. They were asked to join
the RC jumping team and were the only ones to go clear in both rounds and
entered the jump off at 2ft6 again clear! Not bad for a first jumping course
for daughter and a first time for them both together! Many people at RC and PC
are commenting on him and I think I could sell him 10 times over. I have even
been asked a couple of times if I breed them!

Fresca continues to be a delight and got her first pair of front shoes last
week. She was hot shod and was not a bit concerned. She is now much happier on
our very stony tracks. I am looking forward to increasing her workload and
doing some schooling with her. Unfortunately, she has outgrown yet another
saddle so I am now waiting for the saddler to source a suitable extra wide!

Was very disappointed to see that David Stewart did not receive a life ban for

had only just been brought back through my love of this mare.
we found help, and went back to basics, spending a long time just working on
the ground with her, got her a new saddle and a bit which we were sure fitted.
We moved yards to a quiet yard with the person who had helped us, i was riding
her out short distances a couple of times a week, when she lost her nerve and
 began running home again.
i then stopped riding her again and as the winter was coming, and with me at

i havent ridden her since, and i go to see her twice a week, and shes
 excellent on the ground.
also i have GCSEs at the moment, which isnt easy with the amount of homework,

what would other people do in my situation, sell her to someone who can help
her either get back into riding,or even have her doing groundwork (or for
breeding as she is a model merrie and has excellent bloodlines) or, do i keep
her and try my best to see her as much as possible?

Message:  Just a note to thank Lyn and John for our lovely young mare.

Originally we were looking for an older 'made' fjord (knowing from experience
the amount of time and work a youngster usually takes).

After breed research and speaking with Lyn we were persuaded that fjords maybe
far easier than other breeds we have dealt with.

Its hard to believe Fresca is unbroken. In the week she has been with us
nothing has fazed her; quad bikes, tractors, water hose, M4 motorway running
alongside one field, tarpaulins, sheep and a very noisy tractor fan drying
corn in grain silo (which many of sheepdogs refuse to go near). Its all been
taken in her stride with quiet curiosity, no sillness/hysterics or spooking.
After two days she had learnt to walk on and whoa to voice command. She loves
to be groomed and stands quietly to be caught (infact she is already starting
to come to the call). Her temperament, inteligence and trusting nature has
amazed us. Infact, she is so good we are glad we are doing the job ourselves
as I am sure if she had been sent away someone would have just rushed ahead
 and skipped lots of steps.

We are so glad we made the decision to buy her.

Congratulations Lyn and John for breeding fabulous fjords eptiomising breed
 standards.

Message:  Congratulations GB and at merry Christmas to you …..

The reason for congratulations is that Birk Halsnaes - the last but one
stallion import from Denmark - has advanced in our grading system to elite
stallion. In Denmark he was a breeding stallion through six years. All
together we have registered 79 sons and daughters. Till now 15 have been
evaluated and the evaluation results together with Birk’s very good pedigree
have given him the elite status.
If you have wondered what the meaning of the name Birk is I can tell you that
birk is the Danish name for the very beautiful tree, which you call birch.
 Halsnaes is a stud name.

Your last stallion import from Denmark Stas Raaden – the Norwegian bred
stallion – was only in Denmark a little over 2 years. His offspring here – 34
sons and daughters – will come to evaluations in the next years, but he has
already had very good breeding results in Norway, where he was a breeding
stallion, before the purchase to Denmark.

 Happy Holidays
 Birgit

Our other horse (a cob!!) is going off his rocker with the growing grass and
theres just no change in freya, i love her to bits when i see my mum riding
her cob highlandxappaloosa cob (can you believe.)
Its a big long shot but i was wondering if anyone might know the history of
Freya, im posting around on a lot of sites, apparently she came from Denmark
with two other little fjords, and ended up in a market at Yorkshire(possibly
appleby) aparently they were unbroken then. They were then sold to the
trekking centre owners that we bought her off in the lakedistrict, who have
recently had to sell off most horses. A definete long shot but does anyone
know any info? This happened in the last year or so.

of the people who helped to prepare the fjords for the closing down sale.
Maybe some of you'll remember the two big cross bred driving horses. I worked
them in. If my memory serves me correctly, there was a show the following day
which many of the fjords stayed on for with their new owners. It was spooky
when the show finished and the fjord ponies went home with their new owners.

Message:  Thank you for your question. Yes you are correct, you should have an answer.
Since your first message we have had a number of people point this 'problem'
out to us, so the time has come for us to reply. In answer to your earlier
comment - they might have been twins but they are not!

The is only ONE Magnus. He should be called AUSDAN MAGNUS. 'AUSDAN' is the
prefix of the UK's important and largest stud. It is the Ausdan Stud who
actually bred the stallion AUSDAN MAGNUS.
The present owner is claiming Ausdan Magnus was bred at the Maple Stud so he
changed Ausdan Magnus's prefix to 'Maple' in November last year!
The Maple Stud closed down as a fjord stud in May 1985. The Ausdan Stud
(whose Director's helped to organize the Maple Stud's Dispersal Sale)
purchased Ausdan Magnus's mother at that sale, used her for a year for
driving, then put her in foal to their own stallion Ausdan Svejk-Morten in
1986. Ausdan Magnus was born in 1987. The Ausdan Stud sold the foal Ausdan
Magnus to the Hon Mrs J Bruce from Scotland during the Winter of 1987.

Ausdan Magnus retained his correct title through his 18 years until the
present owner bought him and apparently decided he came from the Maple Stud.

How he thinks the Maple Stud managed to produce a colt from Fjords they did
not own is interesting. Perhaps he should have re-named him Maple Miracle!!

As the Maple Stud had closed down as a fjord stud no further breeding took
place there. The Stud's resident stallion, Maple Klaus was also sold to the
Ausdan Stud way back in May 1985.

This person's action in removing Ausdan Magnus's title is being investigated.

In answer to your other question, the sire of your fjord and the sire of
Ausdan Magnus are one and the same. The main reason for your confusion is
this person seems to have an aversion to the use of the name 'Ausdan'. You
won't see it in it's proper place on his society website. If you look on his
website at the stallion 'Ffinlo', it should be named AUSDAN FFINLO as it too
was bred by the Ausdan Stud. Yet again, Ausdan has been removed.

We hope this helps you and others who may be, or have been, confused.
Nowadays we do not change any fjord's original name. We are all an
International Family and we give credit to each other's breeding. (well, most
 of us do)

Years ago I saw the lovely stallion Ausdan Magnus in the flesh. I was told he
was born in 1987. I have just seen one advertised for stud work and he is
named Maple Magnus. He seems to have the same parents as Ausdan Magnus who was
born in 1987 or so I thought. Are these one and the same stallion? If so,
why is the name changed? His sire is down as Morten. My gelding's sire is
down as Morten/Ausdan Svejk on my papers. Are these different fjord sires? If
so it explains my confusion. I have always taken an interest in the breed
even though I don't have my gelding any more. I have never until this year
heard of a breeding stallion called Maple Magnus. Where did he come from? It
can't be the Maple Stud as they shut down donkeys years ago.I went to their
closing down sale with friends so I do know that. Can anybody out there can
enlighten me. Having owned a relative of one of these stallions I am naturally
 curious.

Message:  Hi People

To Hannah - you don't say how long you have had your fjord or where he came
from. In my (limited) experience fjords are very quick learners and once they
have learned a trick that works they keep doing it. I have a 13 year old mare
who is good as gold - as long as she is doing something she wants to do. When
she goes out with another horse she is a complete confidence giver. You could
put a novice on her with no problems. Take her out on her own and she is a
monster. Her trick is whipping round and running home. Absolutely impossible
to stop in a snaffle. Turning her into a hedge did the trick. When I rode her
in a pelham she could't turn round so she reared to turn. Didn't run off in a
pelham though and we eventually finished the ride. The rearing happens any time
there's something she doesn't want to do - Vets and needles - clipping, teeth
rasping. She will learn that she can't get away with it eventually. After all,
when we first got her she bit and barged. She doesn't do either now and will
even step back when I have food in my hand. I'm getting quite fond of the old
baggage now and she has produced a beautiful foal.
