| Message: | Short history of The Once Orange Badge Poetry Supplement The Once Orange Badge Poetry Supplement was founded in December 2002 by Dean-Martyn Heath shortly after suffering his fourth stroke at the age of 26. The supplement was intended to be a free outlet for 'disabled' writers; but due to on-going requests, the editor has now included non-disabled writers whose life has been touched by illness or disability in some way or at some time. Issue one was published in December 2003, issue 2 in March 2004 and issue 3 in May 2004. The most recent issue, issue 4 (December 2004) has circulated (so far) - to over 350 poets world- wide. The supplement still continues to grow without any financial funding. However, as a result of the high circulation, the supplement now has a non-profit subscription policy in place - a small of charge of £1.25 per issue. Poems remain to be selected on merit, and each accepted poet will receive one complimentary copy of the issue - whether they subscribe or not! I shall be returning to his boat in the Spring of 2004 to continue my adventure round Turkey and the Greek islands but need to earn some money in order to help pay costs, etc. Would you be prepared to pay for a series of articles decribing my time on the boat? I thought that the articles could be of interest to your readers by explaining what can be achieved as well as the difficulties in carring out such an activity. | Message: | I work for Granada Television and we are currently developing a programme called 'Last Night Someone Saved My Life' for Channel 4. The type of stories we are looking for would be along the lines of Julian Clarys, who states that the author of "Stop Thinking, Start Living' saved his life from suicide. Julian booked himself into a hotel room to kill himself when he arrived the last guest had left a book on the side, it was this book that Julian read that made him stop and change his life. Julian has since bought the book for countless friends. I am approaching newspapers/magazines that have covered the issue of suicide/prevention to research similar cases, perhaps covered in past articles, which have happened to every day people. I obviously understand that this is a delicate issue and the aim of the series is to understand the key to contentment and long term peace of mind and meet those who have found it in unique situations. We are aiming for the programme to show that it's never too late and the people who have been saved from suicide have gone on to do extremely positive things with their life. Some may just want to thank those that helped them through such a time. It would be fantastic if you could help me through past articles or to forward this e-mail around your offices.
